Sunday Worship

Children’s Chapel

A worship service for children in grades PreK to Second, held during the adult service.

Kids, ages 3 to 8, gather each Sunday for their own worship, held during the adult liturgy at 9 am. In the Summer months, they meet at 10 am: the same time as the adults. Children begin their worship experience downstairs in a preschool classroom, where they can create a craft, dress up, or build with blocks or Legos. After 15 minutes of play, children walk silently to the Children’s Chapel, their Sacred Space. They begin their chapel time in a circle, with silent meditation, and then share their thoughts about the story of the day, which is inspired by the Gospel.

The Gospel is read aloud from an oversized picture narrative, often acted out by the kids, and discussed in the context of a child’s everyday life. Children sing songs in chapel and get a chance to light the worship candles, carry the processional cross and do other churchy jobs. The children rejoin their parents upstairs in the big church for Communion, after the congregation passes the Peace.

Gospel Gatherings

A Gospel-based discussion, held directly after the Gospel is read, in the Library for kids in Grades 3 to 8.

Grace invites all youth in Grades 3 to 9, who do not participate in our choirs, to a Gospel Gathering discussion that takes place during the Sunday morning sermon. These youth participate in the 9 am service (or 10 am service in the Summer) and then leave church for the Library, directly after the Gospel is read. They discuss the Gospel reading with their peers and an adult leader, and then rejoin their families, back in church, directly after the congregation passes the Peace.

Nursery Care for Babies and Toddlers

Nursery care is available at our 9 and 11:15 am services during the Program Year and at the 10 am service in the Summer.

Grace offers experienced child care during its popular service times in a beautiful nursery located on the first floor near the main church. One adult and one teen provider offer loving play and nurturing, while parents attend church. The Nursery is equipped with two portable cribs, rocking chairs and a supply of appealing toys and books.
