Kitchen volunteers work 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, while servers work from 11 am to 1 pm. Food and monetary donations are always needed as well as twelve to fifteen volunteers to help in the kitchen and serve the food. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old. Food for Friends – Food Pantry Donations

Food for Friends is an outreach food ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Newark, collecting food at churches all over the diocese and distributing it to those in need. Food gathered at Grace Church is distributed by Trinity Lutheran Church, Dover, a small and amazingly active urban church that runs a daily soup kitchen, meals on wheels for the homebound, and a food pantry, all conducted by volunteers. Grace Church also supports the small emergency food pantry at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Dover. This pantry has been very active because of the pressure of the national economy on indigent families.

Donations can be made to the shopping cart in the lobby outside of Grace Hall. Most useful items include: canned chicken and beef, chili, corned beef hash, ravioli, “chunky” soups, spaghetti sauce, stew, pork and beans, Vienna sausages, tuna and similar non-perishable food. Please make sure they are not past their expiration date.

Family Promise of Morris County (formerly the Interfaith Council for Homeless Families)

Family Promise of Morris County provides food, shelter, and assistance to families and single women. Most of the families enter the program because of unemployment, under-employment, medical bills, increases in the cost of their housing, loss of work or because they can no longer stay with relatives. The families rotate among the sponsoring congregations on a weekly basis.

Grace Church works as a support congregation partnering with the host congregation, St. Vincent Martyr here in Madison. During their host week (twice a year) we at grace Church arrange for volunteers to support the host congregation providing companionship along with meal and overnight support.

Volunteers are always needed to support this wonderful ministry. If you are interested, please call the Parish Office.

The Recycling Ministry

The Recycling Ministry of Grace Church and St. John’s Church, Dover, gathers furniture and other household items from donors, and delivers them to people who are moving from group housing into apartments. It is a collection and redistribution agency for gifts of furniture, small appliances, baby goods and supplies and food stuffs.

Clients are referred to the Recycling Ministry by 50 private and government agencies, representing battered women’s shelters, drug rehabilitation programs, and homeless shelters.
